About PJ Ortiz Luis
I am an artist that tells stories through different mediums. This includes, but is not limited to, different genres of dance, traditional film photography, performance poetry, and film making. The whole motivation behind why I do art is because its potential for self-expression and influencing a broad audience of people is limitless.
I've been dancing since I can remember. I discovered B-boying at an early age and then Locking later on in life, and have been studying different genres since then. I'm the founder of the Dead Breaks Society, which has grown worldwide and branched into different types of art. I have won many battles throughout my career. Additionally I have performed for a multitude of different shows ranging from Jazz cabaret to sharing the stage with Funk legends to being the opening act for Planet B-Boy.
My love for film started during my 2nd year of college when I got my Holga. I have since then been rescuing film cameras that otherwise would never blink their shutter again. It is an art not many people do anymore, but I'm still keeping it alive with the intent to inspire people to pick it up for themselves as well.
Poetry is the perfect medium for my creative writing and self expression to manifest and satisfy my lust for being on stage. I have performed at many open mics, featured at some, and narrated a stage show that retold the history of Jazz. Currently, I am writing new pieces and slowly making a return to the local spoken word scene.
