FEAR. THE. SPEAR.

long story short...we [SDSU] haven't been invited to Schools for Fools for the last 3 or 4 years.  we were actually put on the wait list to compete, and were informed a school dropped out in February, giving about a month to mobilize and practice.  that month of work definitely paid off, because SDSU ended up winning the entire jam!  below are the battles:

vs UCLA

vs UC Berkeley

vs University
of Washington

vs UNLV

"Buy Film, Not Megapixels"

I've seen this mantra floating around amongst people film photographers...and personally, I think its a little pretentious.  I do understand what it means, and definitely agree that no amount of megapixels can match the "full frame sensor" that is film...however, it also makes people who use that slogan look ignorant to the benefits of digital photography.  Being a lover of film, I definitely acknowledge that it is not the best medium for certain subjects.  Digital's double-edged sword advantage of being able to take multiple shots without worrying how many exposures you have left lends itself well to fast moving objects and people with average to below average photo taking skills.

If it were up to me, I'd make everybody adopt the following quote into their mindset:

"It's not the photographer, it's the eye."

Reel it Back...

i finally got myself a scanner to directly scan my negatives.  my film development process is now almost fully self-sustained aside from getting the chemicals needed to develop.  i'm still trying to get the hang of scanning though...
